Relocating to Washington D.C.

Relocating anywhere can be a huge, sometimes overwhelming change. Thankfully with corporate housing you can move in with nothing but a small suitcase and a tooth brush. You don’t have to worry about all the extras. There’s no packing up and shipping your own furniture or kitchen supplies. Everything is already here waiting for you. Here are a couple tips to calm your anxieties before your big move to DC.

Know the Neighborhoods
DC and Northern Virginia offer a variety of neighborhoods with varying rent costs. Crystal City and Pentagon City are ideal for someone who is looking to be close to DC, but want to escape the traffic. Both our properties are located right next to the correlating metro stations and there are a number of attractions and restaurants, including Pentagon City Mall, to make you feel right in the center of it all. DC is just a brief car or metro ride away for the full Washingtonian experience.

There’s an app for that
When traveling to DC for the first time its normal to not know which way is left and which way is right. There are a range of apps on the market to help you figure out your way through the area. Did you know that the Smithsonian is not just one museum? It’s a whole network of museums, exhibits and gardens. Download “Smithsonian Mobile” to navigate which ones to visit. DC has a love affair with biking. Not only are there hundreds of bike trails in the DC/NOVA area, but you can also download “Spotcycle” -an app that can help you find the bike share location nearest your favorite trail. You may also want to download “ScoutMob” -an app that will allow you to experience DC just like a local. It focuses on local owned shops, bars, and restaurants.

You will have a love/hate relationship with DC Metro
The number one tip I want you to take from this list is something you are destined to hear once or twice while in DC, and that is “walk left, stand right!” If you plan to take the metro, please, figure this out as soon as you arrive. Download the app “DC Metro and Bus” it offers complete maps, bus arrival predictions and real-time countdown of train arrivals. It will save your life.
